For some people, BNP Paribas Malaysia may not be that popular compared to other banks in Malaysia. However, its establishment in 1970 should not be turned down as it means the bank itself has been serving the country for long time.
This bank may not be the native bank of Malaysia, as Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) owns the stocks in a major number. Given that it is a multinational bank, it is not surprising if the bank itself has spread its wings to neighboring countries.
One of them is Indonesia. Per 2000, the BNP merged with Paribas Bank which later combined their name as BNP Paribas.
As in Malaysia itself, the bank started low with only presenting as a representative office. It is only in 2010 that the BNP Paribas granted the Malaysian representative office full-banking license, meaning the office could operate according to the bank’s setting up for incorporated subsidiary. Now, just like in its origin country, the bank offers various services for its customers.
The bank has a term of IFS International Financial Services, which can be accessible in all foreign bank branches, including in BNP Paribas branches in Malaysia. The IFS will include diversified financial services, such as:

Per 2012, BNP Paribas in Malaysia also involve Islamic-compliant finance solution. This is carried out to support the group intention to provide Islamic activities in its Asia Pacific branches. Hence, not only it can gain new customers, the bank may also compete with other local banks in terms of providing banking services.
